Accounting Department Does Socialization of IFRS Convergency

Berita UMM

Accounting department UMM always kept reviewing the development of financial reporting system. After holding a tax consultant socialization, cooperated with Ikatan Konsultan Pajak Indonesia (IKPI) Malang last December, this week the department again held an important event. Cooperated with Indonesian Ministry of Finance, the department held socialization and Training of Trainer (ToT) International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS), Friday (1/14). The event was held in Dome theatre UMM and would be continued in UMM university students’ organization’s room, Saturday (1/15).
The chief of committee Dra. Sri Wibawani, MSi., Ak, explained that the event would be present by Secretary General of Accessors and Accountants Training Centre and followed by thousands of participants. The participants were not only UMM lecturers and students, but also those from universities in Malang, Muhammadiyah universities in East Java, Aisyiyah Regional Leadership, and work partners who cooperated with accounting department of UMM.
“This socialization is important; because today’s financial reporting should be based on the international standardization. IFRS is reporting standardization used by go-public-companies,” said Sri Wibawani.
The ability of applying and analyzing IFRS was a must. According to Wibawani, IFRS tended to need public expert accountants who mastered in it. That was why the socialization was important for the lecturers and students.
Wibawani gave an example. Nowadays the company or institution could choose any reporting methods, just like Entitas Tanpa Akuntansi Publik (ETAP), Pernyataan Standar Akuntansi Keuangan (PSAK) or evenSyari’ah. But IFRS was a must for companies which wanted to go international or go public.
It was quite different with PSAK, IFRS had more complex standardization. For an example in assets counting, there were still some difficulties whether it would use historical cost or fair value. According to Wibawani, the advantage given by IFRS was the principle based, while PSAK was rule based.
As a member of G-20, Indonesia had to converge IFRS for 2011-2012. “So we initiate to present IFRS now to the public, especially for academicans and public accountants,” said Wibawani.
Accounting department would also hold a public lecture, with another theme, cooperated with Ikatan Akuntansi Publik Indonesia (IAPI). The department student association would hold the event in end of March.(nas/t_ris)
